Last sunday was the opening of group exhibition ‘A winter full of color’ at Galerie Bonnard. An exhibition with a wonderful diversity of art, from paintings to sculptures of cardboard. I’m showing one of my paintings that you might have already seen on my website, but that I haven’t exhibited before. Now’s your chance to go take a closer look.

The ideas for my paintings often start with a fleeting thought or feeling. I gain clarity by writing and reflecting on it in my journal. It opens up the possibility of having an inner dialogue. Not always, but sometimes I then feel a strong connection with a deeper self, as if I’m bathing in light. This feeling, in turn, inspired me to paint ‘Remembrance’.

The woman is holding a letter, lovingly pressed against her chest. It’s dear to her, as if she just got word from a loved one. The words at the top clearly read: “Luister, sta stil en Zie”. From Dutch it translates to “Listen, take a moment and See”. It’s a reminder to stay in touch with our inner selves; to, despite leading busy lives, stay receptive to signals and guidance from within, so that we can clearly see the path ahead.

‘A winter full of color’ is on display until January 25th.

Sterren op het Doek

After 6 months of waiting, I’m very excited to finally share that I participated in the tv show ‘Sterren op het Doek’! I will be in the first episode of the new season, broadcasting this saturday.

In every episode of this show, one famous Dutch person is portrayed by 3 artists, and there is a candid conversation between said person and presenter Özcan Akyol. I had the wonderful experience of painting comedian Plien van Bennekom, known from the successful duo Plien & Bianca. At the end of the episode she chooses 1 work of art to take home with her; the other 2 will be auctioned off for charity. Curious to see the works and which one she chooses?

Watch Saturday, November 8th at 20.40h. on NPO2 by MAX.
